Overview Study Programmes Psychology

The Faculty of Psychology offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD study programmes. The Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes are offered at the Faculty in Vienna (in German and English) and at our places of implementation in Berlin, Linz (in German), Ljubljana (in Slovenian) and Milano (in Italian). The PhD study programme in Psychology, leading to a scientific career, is offered only at the Faculty of Psychology in Vienna (in English).

All degree programmes at the Faculty of Psychology are based on the same principles, objectives and values:

  • Fundamental training (Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes) is practice-oriented and takes place as far as possible in the immediate vicinity of the existing practice and health care units (Psychological University Outpatient Clinic and Child Psychology Centre).
  • All courses with a practical character (exercises, pro-seminars, and seminars) are conducted in small groups, with targeted support for both self- and social skills.
  • The Faculty of Psychology offers an exceptionally good staff-to-student ratio, thanks to its many full-time academic staff – even compared with other private universities and colleges.
  • The study of psychology prepares students for a wide range of career opportunities. This wide spectrum of career prospects is matched by a broad range of research-based and research-guided teaching, especially in the Bachelor’s programme.
  • In order to promote a readiness for interdisciplinarity from the very beginning, lectures are also offered in subjects that directly border on psychology: sociology, political science, historical anthropology, economics, etc.
  • In contrast to the primarily natural science-oriented study programmes at Austrian and German state universities and colleges, the curricula of our study programmes are also more oriented towards social science, cultural science and humanities approaches.
