PSY | “Psychologie aus kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive”: New book by Gerhard Benetka & Natalie Rodax

The recently published book “Psychologie aus kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive” by Gerhard Benetka and Natalie Rodax explores how human thought, emotion and action are oriented towards a world structured by meaning. Following an outline of the history of psychology, a framework for organising the material drawn from history, sociology, ethnology and psychology is proposed on the basis of Norbert Elias’s theory of the civilising process.

The following sections deal with Freud’s writings on cultural theory and neo-Marxism in the form of Critical Theory. The two concluding chapters discuss the relationship between psychology and history, and between psychology and sociology respectively. A central aim of the book as a whole is to demonstrate how sophisticated theoretical concepts are translated into concrete empirical research.
