PSY | Project ‘Sustainability and Psychology interconnected’ featured in Atlas of Good Teaching!
We’re excited to share that our project „Sustainability and Psychology interconnected“ has been featured in the Atlas of Good Teaching on gutelehre.at:
Project Summary
A new teaching overarching teaching concept at Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna establishes the psychology of sustainability at the university. The core lies in interactive courses on qualitative methodology on Bachelor and Master level (2 semesters each time), in which students conduct independent research projects under supervision. These projects are linked to interdisciplinary research activities which unite the four faculties (Psychology, Law, Psychotherapy, and Medicine) and manifest themselves in the foundation of a cross-faculty research cluster. The mentioned courses peak in public final presentations by students, framed by impulse presentations by faculty members. Additional courses are exercises in Social Psychology as well as an interactive lecture about the psychology of sustainability.
The goal of the concept is not only a more in-depth anchoring of the sustainability topic into psychological education, but in turn also to embed psychology more strongly into research activities about the necessary social-ecological transformation, and to prepare interested students for taking green jobs. Accordingly, interdisciplinarity is paramount, as well as the understanding that sustainability must be considered not only in individual-psychological terms, but in a global context, and that – because of the personal concernment – it needs to be linked to appropriate self-reflection.
