A course in “EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing” will be set up at Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna from the 2024 academic year. The course is divided into two parts: the EMDR basic curriculum for adults and the EMDR basic curriculum for children and adolescents.

EMDR is recognised as one of the best treatment methods for post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, a large number of studies show that this psychotherapeutic approach can also be promising for other disorders such as depression and anxiety disorders. EMDR is recognised as effective and efficient by the American Psychological Association (APA), the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), the Psychotherapy Advisory Board in Germany, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the WHO (2013) and is now used successfully worldwide in children, adolescents and adults.

Internationally recognised

The course fulfils the requirements of the Austrian EMDR Association and serves as certified training to become an EMDR therapist/practitioner. The curricula are also recognised by the international EMDR associations EMDREA (EMDR-Association Europe).
